Jay and I want to share with everyone our top 5 things from our honeymoon... don't worry this is totally G-rated.
1.) Finally being Husband and Wife... I remember saying... "this is our first vacation together!" and Jay would remind me of the other trips we have taken since we have been together, D.C., Maryland, New York, Knoxville, Destin, etc. and I would remind him... no no no... this is our first vacation together as Husband and Wife! To us we were just on cloud nine... it was so perfect to get away from the world and just be together. I am so happy someone one day said... newly weds go on honeymoons... and am so thankful for that tradition!
2.) On Tuesday of our trip we took a full day snorkeling trip right off the beach of Kaanapali, right on the beach of Whalers Village - if you are familiar with Maui. The boat we had was for 40+ riders but our trip only had 10 folks and they were all adults on vacation with their significant other! It was great... we basically had the boat to ourselves. Then once we were on board they opened breakfast and gave a overview of this new thing called Snuba diving. Snuba is like scuba diving but with out having to have an air tank on your back or having to worry about your depth, etc. Basically you are on a 25 foot air hose line that is connected to an air tank that is on a raft floating on the surface. Being the adventurous type Jay and I decided to go for it... It was amazing! After we got used to breathing in and out through our mouths and adjusted to the cooler water temperature we were good to go... I stayed near the top for a bit until I was able to pop my ears and go deeper. We saw tons of sea life that was just amazing. When we were finished diving they opened the bar and served lunch, and cruised around and searched for whales. We saw a few whales and a pod of spinner dolphins. They were so entertaining and just mesmerizing to watch! It was a perfect day on the water and #2 on our list!
3.) On Monday morning Jay and I woke up at 6am, which is 10am central time, and were ready to start our day! We went for a walk, had breakfast and stumbled upon these amazing "reserved chairs" that were on the edge of the beach with the best view in the world. We ended up reserving a set of the chairs Monday, Wednesday and Friday. It was, by far, Jay's favorite place on the island to relax and read his book. My favorite part about relaxing in our chairs was that we had our own server and also, the chairs had a sun shade connected that you could pull down and shade the sun... so this is how our day would go... Wake up, have breakfast, get to our chairs at 9am, a.m. happy hour from 10-11a.m., cool off in the pool or ocean, lunch, nap, jump in the pool, read, relax, make dinner plans, and then repeat the next day. What more could you ask for... the most relaxing thing we did hands down!
4.) Dinner at Merrimans... Wednesday night we made dinner reservations to this amazing little restaurant called Merrimans. It is located on Namaui Bay, the northwest side, of the island. Every table at Merrimans is a full ocean view... this restaurant is open on all sides, hints perfect views to the ocean. Jay ordered Surf and Turf, Lobster and Steak, and I had the seared ahi tuna... AMAZING. It was the most romantic evening ever and we even found a few spots along the road on the way to the restaurant where we pulled off and took a few photos... It was just the two of us and it was felt like we were the only ones in the world.
5.) On Thursday we took a day trip to Oahu and saw Pearl Harbor, Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head. Since we were in Hawaii we couldn't pass up going to Pearl Harbor... so we took the early flight to Oahu and spent the day being true tourists. We rented a car and navigated our way to Pearl Harbor. When we arrived we pulled tickets for the 8:30a.m. ferry to the U.S.S. Arizona. We spent about 30 minutes touring the memorial then spent 4 hours touring the rest of the sights. Weeks before they had just opened a great museum that showcased Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, and the world before, during and after December 7, 1941. Jay loved every minute and it was great to experience it with him. He loves history and I am so glad we took a day and toured this historic sight. It was truly an experience I will never forget.
